Started working on the right elevator trailing edgeStarted working on the right elevator trailing edge
Nice to get back to work. Things got really busy around here in the past 2 weeks. Here I final drilled the trailing edge through the pre-drilled holes in the top of the elevator skin through the wedge, bottom elevator skin and then into the aluminum angle. Then I clecoed everything down. UPDATE 12/29/05: I should have supported the middle of the lower skin with something to raise it up a little. Apparently when I drilled the holes into the aluminum angle, the middle bottom skin pooched out farther than the top skin, causing a 1/16" dip in the trailing edge line during final riveting. Dangit!

The vise grip dimpler from Averys is the perfect tool for this, since the skins can't be opened very much here.

I pulled the wedge out and clecoed it the aluminum angle to make it easier to machine countersink the holes.

The Averys countersink tool really makes things go fast.
