V-Stab Lighting - View Thread Hi Gang.... Looking for some help from the guys with lighting. Framed up the V-Stab, and was reading ahead of the plans, (per the plans), and I found a note, about if you are going to have lighting, "make provisions for it now", before you rivet the V-stab together. Now, the light appears to be part of the Rudder bottom 'glass cap. How , and where am I supposed to make the "provision"???? I read thru the entire preview plans, but nowhere I can find does it say where to run the wiring. Obviously, it needs to go thru the rudder, thru the V-stab, and into the fuselage. But, I don't have a Fuselage yet, so I don't know what will be in the way, and when. Where the heck do I make the run???

V-Stab Lighting - RE: - View Thread The wiring provisions they are talking about are for lights or antenna at the top of the vertical stab. Most go for the tail/strobe lighting in the rudder, since a strobe on top of the stab would also illuminate the cockpit. It is possible to mount an antenna atop the stab, though I haven't seen any. If there is a possibility of you doing either of these in the future, just drill and insert some snap bushings, and thread a string through and tie off at each end. This would allow you to pull wiring through at a later time. This will not be possible after the vert stab is sealed up.

V-Stab Lighting - RE: - View Thread Store all thoughts away for awhile. Not to make light of it, but don't worry about the lights to the rudder. And I will agree that there is no guidance on this matter. The wiring will never see the vertical stab except for a hole drilled thru the vertical spar at some point in the future. All of this applicable unless you are putting some gosh awful rotating beacon on top of the vertical stabilizer.

V-Stab Lighting - RE: - View Thread It's optional.. and you don't have to do it.. I'd say most of the RV's out there don't have anything in the VS... just the rudder + wingtips.

V-Stab Lighting - RE: - View Thread The plans refer to cutting holes in your vert stab for weight savings, not for lighting i.e. position lights.
