Throttle and mixture cable locking up on cooldown - View Thread I've never seen this problem discussed before, but perhaps someone can help. I have a IO-360 A1B6D on a RV-8. After shutdown and well after the engine cools down the mixture cable is impossible to move. This has occured twice now and the only solution is to replace the cable as the inner plastic lining has seized to the movable part of the cable itself. The throttle cable is beginning to get stiff and is only a matter of time until replacement is necessary. Both of these cables run in close proximity to the exhaust and I have insulated them with various types of wraps but to no avail. I have used Van's of the shelf cables and have had some custom made but the problem persists. Has anyone experienced this problem? Are there cables available with no plastic inner sleve or something more suitable to high heat areas?

Throttle and mixture cable locking up on cooldown - RE: - View Thread I had the same problem on first flight. It gets you thinking...I covered mine in firesleeve and moved them up a couple of inches away from the exhaust. I have not had any reoccurrences since.

Throttle and mixture cable locking up on cooldown - RE: - View Thread Have not had this problem, but perhaps because I'd been warned about it ahead of time - one of the scores of eyes that inspected my FWF setup before flight (Thanks! whomever that was!). All my cables are firesleeved from a couple of inches forward of where they cross over the exhaust hangers (between exhausts - standard Vetterman setup) back to the firewall. No internal sleeve melting here.
