Theft Protection - View Thread Does anyone have feed back or ideas on theft prevention devices? Prop locks, Throttle locks, hidden fuel shutoff, hidden battery disconnect and canopy locks. I am considering installing some hidden shut offs to keep someone from flying away with my RV. Most of the time it is the hanger, but on a trip it is only possible to park outside on the ramp. I opted for a non-keyed ignition toggle switches, so I want some secondary device to disable the plane. If you want send me your idea off list. An article from an insurance expert stated there has been a rise in experimental aircraft theft; both projects and flying RV's, and the pay out of the claims are very high. Some insurance companies will not offer builders insurance anymore. The increase in theft was one of the reasons insurance rates have increased according to this insider. With avionics and instruments costing thousands of dollars each and finished planes worth $60-$100 thousand in new parts, they are becoming a real target.

Theft Protection - RE: - View Thread I made a prop lock from a length of chain, substantial and hardened if available, your option on length. I covered the length with a very flexible, woven, high pressure hose, as not to damage the prop, large enough to fit over the chain, and bought a Killer/Master type lock to fasten the ends together. Weave it over and around the prop, lock it up. Done. Make up a canvas bag, and throw it in back when needed.
