Alternator Belt - View Thread I bought an alternator belt and installed it and it seems to fit okay except that it does not fit down in the grove of the pulley completely. There is about 1/16" sticking up from the pulley on the crank and not quite as much on the alternator. It is a NAPA Premium XL belt (which is supposedly manufactured by Gates) 3/8". Should I go down to the 5/16" belt or will this work okay.

Alternator Belt - RE: - View Thread V-Belts are design to transmit power via the sides of the belts, if the belts are the wrong size ( b vs. c ) or the pulleys are worn such that the belts run on the bottom of the groove, the tension put on the belt is excessive resulting in bearing failure.

Alternator Belt - RE: - View Thread I used a NAPA belt and it does stick up a little, but so far so good. 15 hrs and climbing. It's probably better if it doesn't ride too low in the pulley.
