Finished drilling the bottom longerons and F-9101 webFinished drilling the bottom longerons and F-9101 web
This took quite a while to get done. I used several clamps to make sure that everything was tight, skin and all. I made sure to check each hole for the right size bit, so I wouldn't get drill happy.
Ready to make the F-996B spacers and the F-996C reinforcement anglesReady to make the F-996B spacers and the F-996C reinforcement angles
I went a wild hunt for the material to make the F-996B spacers. I finally found a part that I thought might be it after it was cut in half. Being uncomfortable with this, I posted my question and a picture of the part on VansAirForce.net. In a very short time I received my answer from Alan about where to locate the correct pieces. Turns out the parts where in Bag 1982, with the necessary width already precut. Here's where I got confused. The drawing says to make the material out of "0.125 2024-T3 Alclad". Bag 1982 lists the material as "AS3-125x0.75x4.25". Hmm... me thinks that is just a little bit confusing... eh? Yeah, I know, I'm supposed to know how to translate everything. But wouldn't it be easier for the builder to list the same name in both places?? Anyway, thanks to Alan, I have my answer. Alan, you da' man!
An outside shotAn outside shot
I decided to do another shot from the outside for the folks out there who might be visiting my website and not be familiar with how all the parts go together. This will give them an idea of the overall assembly.
